Wendy Teakel is a professional freelance artist working in the fields of Painting, Sculpture, Drawing and Installation. She has practiced professionally since 1980 and has developed a deep knowledge of contemporary art and the ideas it advocates. Wendy’s personal creative interests focus on site and place explored through human, animal and environmental interactions and her practice spans the parameters of Arte Povera and Environmental Art.
Wendy lectured in visual art and Sculpture at the Australian National University until 2017. She retired as Head of Sculpture to pursue her studio practice at Murrumbateman, NSW. Wendy holds a a Masters by Research from RMIT (2004). Since 1980 Wendy has held 38 solo exhibitions and had work curated into over 90 exhibitions in public and private galleries nationally and internationally. Wendy’s work is held in significant national and private collections, including the National Gallery of Australia and regional museums and galleries. She has received numerous awards and prizes throughout her career including Australia Council, Asialink and CAPO grants and residencies. Wendy holds honorary status as a Senior Lecturer at the Australian National University School of Art and Design and she is regularly engaged as an expert judge and selector for competitions, prizes and creative grants.
