Australia House Urada Japan
Wendy has been invited to be in residence at Australia house under the auspice of the Australian Embassy, Tokyo and the Echigo Tsumari Art Foundation. During her two week residency in the award winning building designed by Andrew Burns, Wendy will develop a series of drawings responding to the landscape and working with natural charcoals, soils and snow as well as pastels and pigment.
Australia Council Residency to Tokyo Feb - May 2016
Wendy will be travelling to Tokyo to take up residence for three months in mid February 2016. She was awarded the grant under the Australia Council International Residency Program in 2014. Wendy will be the penultimate resident in the Tokyo studio which sadly will cease to be part of the Australia Council’s future programs. Wendy will be travelling within Japan and spending time researching Japanese space and applying her findings to her practice.
CHAT April 4 - May 3, 2014 - an exhibition between Thai Artists connected to the Faculty of Fine Arts at Chiang Mai University and Australian Artists from the Australian National University School of Art. Wendy Teakel Awarded artsACT project grant for 2012
Wendy was successful in attracting an artsACT project grant to travel to the United States to visit and research land art sites and landscapes. Her trip will take her by road and air across thousands of kilometres visiting some iconic artworks and landscapes which will enable her to make comparative studies between Australian and USA landscapes. She will also visit exhibitions and major museums of contemporary art.
Wendy Teakel Awarded the Singapore Airlines Travel Award for 2011
Wendy Teakel was awarded the Singapore Airlines Travel Award to assist her with travel to Kathmandu, Nepal to research Nepalese carpet weaving, dying and production techniques. This research will be used to create new work, transforming Teakel’s two dimensional designs into hand dyed woven carpets through collaboration with local artisans within a fair trade environment at Kumbeshwar Technical School.
Weaving Art and Change
Wendy Teakel was invited by Melbourne based curator Isabella Holding to participate in the Weaving Art and Change project. This is a non profit project where all sales go to help charities in Nepal. The carpets were exhibited at fortyfivedownstairs in Melbourne May 2011.
Weaving Art and Change was exhibited at the Siddhartha Gallery, Kathmandu, Nepal from 23rd September to 7th October, 2012. The exhibition was supported by the Australian Embassy in Nepal and the Curator, Isabella Holding gave a floor talk about the "Weaving Art and Change" project at the gallery, Wednesday 26th September at 4.00pm
